today we had another of the video conferences. this was the CEO of France Telecom, and he kept us waiting for a while because he had to attend to another call. it was ok and he talked a bit about the challenges of the telecommunications industry, and how they had to avoid being a "dumb pipe" provider, meaning that they only provide the cables that connect to your house but not the content such as internet services, cable programs etc. that are making most of the money.
lunch was outdoors again, just outside the library. it was hot, and i ate quickly and left. roast chicken and for the first time, i ate more than a bit of bread. the tuna salad was good, and for dessert, i grabbed a macaron (or is it macaroon?) and a soda and went to the room to read.
stanford stadium. i think this was where they had the soccer game the other night. dinner tonight was at the stadium and before that, we got up to the roof where there were spectacular views of the campus.
this panaroma shot isn't very good. i think i failed to keep the camera level while panning from left to right. but it gives you an idea of how it would have worked if i had done it better. i should bring the tripod with me wherever i go. it's a really small one that i could put in my pocket or bag.
that's me with one of the japanese participants in the program.
some shots of the dining area and the food. this is something like an executive box, which is quite common in stadiums today. basically these are private rooms with a great view of the stadium and are frequently bought or rented by companies who entertain their clients. dinner was ok. the fish was very good - that's the one in the middle with green stuff on top.
it would have been great if there had been a game on. oh well, can't really complain.
