The first of our Japan holidays. Coincidentally I caught a documentary on NHK World recently where they talked about Shirakawa-go, the UNESCO heritage site with the thatched roof houses, and how the roofs have to be replaced once every 40 years. The entire community pitches in together with volunteers to do this.
